GTA 6 is drawing ever closer now that 2025 is finally here. The next huge Grand Theft Auto game from developer Rockstar has been at large for over a decade now, the long-awaited follow up to 2012’s GTA 5 that we now know will bring players back to the one and only Vice City for yet another high-octane open world adventure.
Grand Theft Auto is renowned for its vibrant worldbuilding, open road cruising, memorable and tightly written cast of characters, and seedy hijinks galore. Thanks to the surprise dropped GTA 6 trailer which set our heads spinning in December 2013 , it’s clear that GTA 6 is set to up the ante even further. A year and two months later, our eyes are still firmly fixed on Rockstar and its GTA 6 plans. With some analysts “hoping” GTA 6 will normlize a $100 price tag, it will undoubtedly be one of the biggest new games coming our way this year (if its release target is met). Currently, GTA 6’s release date has been narrowed down to Fall 2025. Previously, the trailer had only revealed a vaguer 2025 launch window, with Fall later confirmed in Take-Two financial report back in May.
While this seemingly put to rest a report via Kotaku suggesting GTA 6 may be pushed into 2026, former Rockstar dev Obbe Vermeij recently explained that Rockstar “is probably not in a position to determine whether they will hit 2025 until May-ish“, citing the delay of GTA 4, which was made around four months before the release date. Vermeij also said that GTA 6 will sell “10+ years” since there’s “no competition”, meaning that Rockstar is “not going to release the game until they’re 100% happy”.
Rumors of a delay began in early 2024 after the news that Rockstar moved all of its employees back to full-time in-office work five days a week, which multiple of its developers have expressed concern about, particularly when it comes to the potential effects on the sequel.
